One can be ignorant without fault, but to know and remain idle is something else. Something worse. Apathy so consuming that as we raise and another falls, there’s no thankfulness or appreciation, no mind paid, and no acknowledgement given. A reminder to be mindful with each moment. People call it dreary and depressing, as if not knowing or ignoring the truth is the proper way to be. Ignoring a problem does not shield one from fault.

Know what’s so funny about this? How the blue-eyed White folks know this is an exercise (as in not real life!) and can’t stand taking the shit people of color deal with for a couple of hours before they’re screaming and crying and storming off. They know it’s fake, and they still can’t deal!

I recently heard the term “White-guilt” and immediately felt intensely offended. What bothered me most was that I did not truly understand what about this thing hit me so personally. Jane Elliott’s final words in this video encapsulates that feeling, so elegantly that I cannot imagine better words to describe how I felt then.
